A story of love 💛 and mangoes 🥭: Juliet, 70 and Migue, 75 pose for a portrait by one of 600 mango trees on their farm in Keigumo, north east of Mt Kenya. “We are both born in Chuka Town, on the east side of Mt Kenya, we met in the street on my way to college in March 1965. We fell in love and got married in 1970.” The couple began supplying to the cottage industry company Sweet n Dried in 2009 when the company first started. As Sweet n Dried have grown – now to harvesting products from over 300 Kenyan farmers in the region – so Juliet and Migue continue to have a consistent income and a value to their mangoes.

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Farmer to Farmer program promotes sustainable economic growth, food security and agricultural development in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Tanzania. This is a people-to-people exchange where U.S. volunteers with agricultural expertise share skills and help build capacity for African farmers through short-term training and technical assistance projects which not only develops the local capacity necessary to increase food production and rural incomes but expands economic growth and addresses environmental and natural resource management challenges.
