Mkopa Solar

Publication: BBC

Rural Kenyan households spend about 26% of their income on lighting, with 92% relying on kerosene which is dangerous and expensive. Access to solar lanterns, solar phone charging capacity and solar radios through companies like MKOPA Solar change the lives of many Kenyans who are off the grid and cannot afford to buy power, by creating income-generating opportunities, allowing children to study later at night and by replacing the expensive, time-consuming and polluting alternatives such as kerosene.
